How to add PollDaddy Polls to your WordPress.com blog

Update This tutorial is now out dated because of this new Feature!

How to add PollDaddy Polls to your wordpress.com blog

About 5 days ago I saw in the forums that “PollDaddy” created an shortcut for wordpress.com allowing wp.com members to be able to have a active poll on there blogs instead of just a link to there poll…

This is great news because now wp.com members can add polls to there
posts to allow the readers to interact with the blog…

How to add a PollDaddy Poll to your blog

  • If you haven’t already: Signed up for a PollDaddy account
  • Set up you’re profile
  • Create poll
  • write you’re question
  • write your answers
  • Select Language
  • Pick you’re poll skin or create using CSS
  • Save & Continue

Now it will give you a JavaScript code
but JavaScript is not allowed on wp.com
so you’ll need to take these last steps for
the poll to show up on your blog….

How to get the shortcut code and add it to your wordpress.com blog

You’ll see “WordPress” on the right side click the name “wordpress”
Then click wordpress.com and it will display a shortcut….

  • Copy Shortcut
  • Open your wordpress editor
  • Press the “HTML” button
  • Paste “Shortcut”
  • Publish post or save if adding to an already existing post

How to add PollDaddy’s poll to your sidebar

  • Copy shortcut
  • Click My Dashboard on your blog
  • click Design
  • Click widgets
  • Add text widget
  • open text widget
  • Paste Shortcut
  • Click change
  • Click save changes

Great tutorial Teck. I needed it, thanks. Any idea how to center a poll inside of a post? May be an HTML issue?

I haven’t figured out how to center polls yet but a great starting point would be to
      search the wp.com support forum
      Thanks for the compliment! :)

I’m trying to figure out if I am going to switch from blogger to wordpress and one of the things on my “con” list for wp was that they don’t allow javascript or have a poll widget. this is an easy enough work around so thanks!

My poll won’t fit into the right sidebar on the Ocean Mist theme. I’ve done the tutorial and the poll appears, but it’s too big.

    • April 29, 2009 at 12:45 pm | #13

Hello: Shean2, you’ll need to pick a more narrow poll skin for it to fit properly fit. Also how to link your name to your website.

Yes, i do agree it’s helpful but you have to click the shortcut to get to the poll. On other blogs i have seen the poll is actually there, not on another page. Im not sure why i cant do that

The poll, for me at least, takes up the entire length of the page. In other words – it shows the first question at the top, then a long space, and finally the rest of the questions at the bottom. Is there a way to size this poll window?

    Hello drowsiness
I don’t believe there is a option to be able to control the size other than the preset dimensions. It doesn’t sound like your browser is rendering the dimensions correctly what browser version are you using ?

Here is the documentation for the poll settings  http://support.wordpress.com/polls/

      Thanks for the reply, T3CK.

I am using Firefox 3.5, Internet Explorer 8 and Google Chrome. It shows up the same way in each browser.

Sorry for taking so long to reply back But do believe I found the issue it appears you have the preset size set to wide you will need to edit the post with the wide poll then click on the poll daddy button in the editor then click edit on the poll that is to wide then reinsert the updated poll short code into the post.

Here is a screen shot showing where you can find the preset sizes

Very nice! I still have one question about the polls. Is there any way to alternate between multiple polls you may have on your PollDaddy account?

Hello Sara, I don’t believe so.
