Top 6 Ways To Get Your Blog Noticed Fast On The Interweb:

Top 6 Ways To Get Your Blog Noticed Fast On The Interweb:

My last post was about the basic steps to set up a successful blog/site so if you haven’t checked it out yet please do so…

Why do I need to promote my blog?

The reason is there is allot of Website’s and blog’s on the Internet and your blog/ site will just get buried… So you want to help your blog/site to get noticed by promoting it because writing solid content isn’t enough because if no one knows about your blog/site then your content isn’t getting readers to read it…

In what way would you recommend Promoting my blog/site :?:

I will recommend plenty of ways to promote your site/blog and I will give you a step by step style post to get you on your way to successfully promoting your site/blog…

1. Social network promoting: (Very Effective)

Joining Social Networks is one of the best ways to get your blog/site noticed my advice would be to join [social networks] that are geared towards – promoting your blog/site like [Blog catalog very effective] or [MyBlogLog Effective]

2. Rss feed & Email subscription

You might be saying to your self how will this promote my blog or site it’s pretty simple by setting up a Rss feed thru Feed Burner… By burning your feed you will be able to offer multiple Rss readers like Google Reader
to your readers… And Google Reader allows your readers to share an article with there friends then if they like the article they pass it on to there friends and so on and so on…

The email subscription thru feed Burner makes it easy for you’re readers to get a update thru there email which will post the whole article in there email and if they like your article you can bet they’ll email it to there friends…

3.Adding an Social bookmark bar

By adding a Social bookmark bar to you’re post it will allow your readers to easily interact with your blog/site & submit your posts to there favorite book marking site… Thru wordpress.com you can accomplish this by downloading [Get Social] which is a easy to navigate wizard interface application… (SoftWare) Example [Link broken]

Software application author’s blog
Download [Get Social] Click folder »
GetSocial is for windows only

Update
I wrote up a how to article
on How To Use Get Social For WordPress.com (social bookmark bar)

4. Using tags to promote your site

Using using tags is also a good way to promote your blog/site here on wordpress.com because they have a global tag page system and other wp members can find your post thru this system….

Here at wordpress.com there is a set number of tags and category’s combined which is 12 more than that will keep your tags and category’s from showing up on the the global category & tag system….

Also tags & keywords are a great way for search engines to describe & help readers find your posts… Google came out with this new tool which will show you what keywords are being used the most so you’ll know how popular that keyword is before you use it on your post…

Do Note that you should use keywords & tags that are related to your post…

5. Leaving comments on other peoples blog/site

This is a very effective way to promote your blog/site as long as you don’t abuse the comment system by just dropping your link or just leaving a basic  comment like nice site that comment alone will only go so far you should leave a related comment that will contribute to the discussion of the article or contributes to the article with your knowledge…

If you blog here at wordpress.com leaving comment with your name not link to your site will not help you get hits or new readers so here is a tutorial post I wrote up that will walk you thru the steps of linking your site to your name…

6. Forum Signature

Forum signature is real popular on 3rd party forum sites and allot of people will put there favorite image as there [sig] so why not [hyper link] your blog/site URL to your – own image so when someone clicks on it they are taken to your site I use this option with forum sites I’m a member of and it has drawn new readers to this site…

How to hyper link using the wp.com editor

What you’ll want to do is upload a picture into the [WYSIWYG] editor then click on the [chain link icon] a pop up screen will display input the URL then click insert… Now click on the HTML tab and copy the HTML code now go to the forum site and follow there instructions…

Do Note that you can not use signatures in the wordpress.com forum or put your link after your post this is not allowed in the forum and there is a lot of threads were you can promote your site… You are allowed to provide links to your site if  it contributes to the support question or the thread is set up to promote your posts or site…

Very nice and helpful suggestions…My only question is that when I search for my site, by typing in: “matching family clothes”, for example, my site is showing up on page 2 and reads en.wordpress.com/tag/matching-family-clothes/ instead of myahandmeblog.wordpress.com Can you please tell me why this is?

    • March 22, 2009 at 9:58 pm | #5

      Hello myahandme,
Thank you for the compliment, Their is a couple of possible reasons the search engine is indexing your site with the tag word “matching family clothes”

Possible reason one is because you have tagged a post with that key phrase.

Possible reason two is becacue your home page tab is the key phrase “matching family clothes” and the search engine indexed the Key phrase “matching family clothes” as a tagline for your site.

    Hi!

Thank you for responding so quickly!! I definitely want to locate us under the keywords “matching family clothing.” However, I’m wondering why it is showing up with en.wordpress.com/tag/matching-family-clothes/ as the site adress to go to. And, then once you click on this adress, it first takes you to the wordpress.com site and then you have to click again to get to our blog (instead of taking us directly there)

Ideally, I would like the search engine to have the direct url to http://www.myahandmeblog.wordpress.com Is this something I need to pay for?

I really hope you can help!!:)

    Looking forward to your response!

Is this something I need to pay for?

Nope you don’t need to pay for anything!

I don’t know why the Search Engine indexed your site through the English Global Tag Page usually search engines link straight to the article link. I recommend Contacting Staff and see what they have to say about the situation. Sorry I couldn’t be more help for you. :(

I joined Blog catalog about 3 years ago I think but have never done anything much since.

What tips can you give for promoting a blog through that site?

    • August 31, 2009 at 11:55 pm | #14

      Hello Lee

First off I recommend adding the Blog Catalog reader widget to your site becuase that will count for about 2% increased traffic.

Blog Catalog is one of the those Blog directories where if your very active on their site then that alone will start driving traffic to your site. I recommend hanging out on their discussion board and start helping other bloggers with your expertise
this will help other bloggers to get to know what you have to offer on your site.

Can you explain why the widget would increase traffic by 2% ???

      • September 1, 2009 at 11:49 am | #16

        Oh sorry about that Lee,

because the widget displays the avatars of people that visit your site so some of the blog catalog members will visit your site just to advertise their avatar on your site since it links back to their profile which is link to their website and I have actually gained faithful readers from those type of blog catalog members. Very Few which is why I say about 2% from the widget alone.

Ahhhh, so somewhat like MyBlog then, though I never had any success with that. In fact, all I ever found was people trying to say certain pages on my site were there’s :/

I’ll check Blog Catalog out over the weekend though as it sounds like it may possibly be of interest.
