New Social Bookmark Solution For WordPress.com Blogs Via AddToAny

Update Thanks to Hope101 there is now a IE8 Version Video Tutorial!!!

In the past I wrote up tutorials found (Here Written) and (Here Video) For GetSocial But Get Social has it’s limitations like for example Getsocial is for PC only and the app only adds a select few sharing sites compared to AddToAny which in my opinion more is better :!:

AddToAny is a Social Bookmark Site that makes it easy to add a social bookmark bar for all computing platforms what caught my attenion with the website was their easy bookmark for WordPress.com blogs that correctly inserts the code with the parmalink with out having to copy and past it your self!!!

AddToAny also has a blog post on this subject

Thanks for this, but a question: My brower is IE, so I followed their website’s direction and saved the link to my favorites list. Now what?

      Hello hope101,
Did you watch the video in the post :?: The video shows how to add the button to your post

I did, thanks. But the drag and drop method doesn’t work for my toolbar. Per their site, for those of us who use IE, you have to save their link to favorites in Internet Explorer. I did that, but I’m not sure what to do from there.

Sorry about the questions. “Techie” is definitely not in my job description.

    These are their directions:

    “For Internet Explorer:

Make sure your “Links Toolbar” is visible. If it is not, right click on any part of the menu bar and make sure Links is checked.
Right-click on the WP.com Share Button above and click Add to Favorites.
Be sure to save the Favorite in your “Links” folder so that it appears in your Links Toolbar.”

I’m lost about what to do after this point.

Sheesh, no need to apologize, T3CK. You’re the reason I have the Get Social app in there to begin with! I’m also pretty sure I can handle a 2 hour wait. :)

While I’ve got you, can you tell me if there’s a way to put in an app where readers can e-mail me, yet not get my actual e-mail address? Or is that included in the Add to Any application?

    • July 26, 2009 at 1:07 am | #6

Yep there is a short code for someone to email you and not get your email address Unless you reply back to their email here is the WP.com FAQ on the Contact Form short code

The email function on the bookmark bar is so a reader can email your article to their contacts.

Hmm. I had found that link and tried it earlier, but I can’t see it in a preview shot. Do you put it in in the visual or html editor? And just [contact-form]? No img src code or anything else? Can I put it with my blavatar? Or in my sidebar? (When I tried this earlier, I just got a button-looking bar without any text.)

PS: Sorry to be such a pain.

PSS: Ooh, think I figured out the Add to Any issue! Got them to generate some code with my url, had to cut the Javascript bit, but it looks like it’ll work. I will just have to cut and paste the code each time.

Thanks so much for the info about “AddToAny” which I found via your post on the wordpress.com forum. I had been looking for up to date info on adding some sort of widget. Successfully installed the share button on all my posts the other day. Now I’m curious to check out all of the services on the link. There are a lot of them, including some I’m not familiar with. Thanks again

Hello Hope101 I’m working on a video tutorial for IE users as I write this I should have the video ready in 2 hours so I have time to edit the video as well as wait for Vimeo to upload the video Thank you for asking this question you have great points in your question. Again thank you for bringing this to my attention and I have figure out how to add the bookmarklet to the bookmark bar with out dragging it!!!

Sorry I didn’t have a video for the IE version I mainly use Firefox.

All you do is add the short code [contact-form] in the HTMl view best if add to a page with comments off so the readers don’t get confused. As for the image and sidebar neither of those options will work with the short code option.

Oh the video is ready and the video will show how to bookmark correctly and how to add it to a post without the Java mess!!!
